Reign Aurelianus
Person Aurelianus
Mint Antioch
Issue 4
Issue name
Datation summer 272 – spring 273
Denomination Antoniniani
obverse reverse
Obverse coin Revers coin
Titulature IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG Legend RTES AVG
Obverse mark Reverse mark –/–//–
Bust code K8 Reverse code Emperor 1d
Bust description Bust right, radiate, in consular dress, holding eagle-tipped sceptre in left hand Reverse description Emperor in quadriga r., raising r. hand and holding long transverse sceptre on l. shoulder

Note Maybe an essay of dies prepared for aurei, but a faulty coin: the consular bust is turned to the r. (eagle-tipped sceptre in l. hand instead of r. hand), the legend has no meaning. The two recorded coins seem to share the same pair of dies, but the obverse die has been reengraved and IMP C AVRLLIANVS AVG (V=Est. 162a) corrected in IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG (Emporium, 49, 22-3/V/2003, 649).
