The first edition of RIC V.1 was written by P.H.Webb (The Roman Imperial Coinage V.1. Valerian to Florian, London, 1927). The collection The Roman Imperial Coinage (RIC) studies the coinage issued by the imperial Latin-speaking mints, from the reign of Augustus, 31 BC, to that of Zeno, 491 AD, excluding the Roman provincial coinage, mainly Greek-speaking, object of the collection The Roman Provincial Coinage (RPC).

The collection consists of 10 volumes, published by Spink, London, from 1923 (RIC I) to 2007 (RIC II.1 revised edition).
